In reaction to this incident, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change initiated a joint inspection of the affected site last week. Officials from the ministry collaborated with the Fiji Ports Corporation Ltd, conducting on-site boat inspections complemented by drone surveillance to evaluate the situation and pinpoint the source of the slick.
The Ministry has pledged to continue investigations and monitoring efforts to identify any further pollution indicators. Efforts are underway for interagency cooperation between the Fiji Ports Corporation and the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) to trace the origin of the slick.
