A wind advisory has been issued for the Susquehanna Valley as strong winds continue to sweep through the region, with gusts reaching over 50 mph. The advisory is set to remain in effect until noon tomorrow, with sustained winds of 30-40 mph expected to persist throughout the night and into Tuesday.

Currently, temperatures are around 38 degrees in Ephrata, with wind gusts reported at 53 mph. Other areas are experiencing varying gusts; Elizabethtown is seeing winds at 30 mph, while Harrisburg reports 37 mph gusts. Conditions are reminiscent of a tropical storm for certain locations within the valley due to the intensity of the winds.

Tonight, the possibility of spotty snow showers exists, particularly for areas northwest of Interstate 81, including between Harrisburg and Lewistown. While the chance of significant snowfall remains low, there may still be light snow flurries as the New Year approaches. Cold temperatures in the 20s to mid-30s are expected to accompany the gusty winds overnight.

As the cold front sweeps in on New Year’s Eve, more clouds will build in with the potential for isolated snow showers late Wednesday night into New Year’s Day. Although significant snow accumulation is unlikely, some areas to the west of I-99 may see a light coating.

Looking ahead, both Tuesday and Wednesday will feature unseasonably chilly weather with high temperatures struggling to reach the lower 30s. Despite the brisk conditions, the first weekend of 2026 looks to be dry, providing a refreshing start to the new year. While it will remain cold, residents can prepare for clearer skies after the current storm passes, offering a glimmer of hope for calm weather ahead.
