A surprise Random Breath Test operation carried out by the Police Force’s Traffic Enforcement Unit along the Namaka–Nadi corridor last night led to the arrest of eight drivers, including a police officer stationed in Lautoka, for alleged drunk driving. The operation involved testing 237 drivers in total.
According to police officials, 20 drivers were tested and subsequently released after their breath-alcohol readings were found to be below the legal limit. However, the eight individuals who registered results exceeding the prescribed limit were taken into custody.
This enforcement operation highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to tackle impaired driving and promote road safety. Such initiatives are vital in reducing the number of accidents attributed to drunk driving and ensuring safer roads for all travelers.
