American football enthusiasts in Suva experienced an exhilarating Super Bowl watch party, organized by the US Embassy at Damodar Cinemas in Damodar City Centre. The event showcased the 60th Super Bowl, where the Seattle Seahawks claimed victory over the New England Patriots with a score of 29-13, held at Levi’s Stadium in San Francisco, California.
John Degory, the embassy’s chargé d’Affaires, spoke to the lively crowd, emphasizing the event’s goal of celebrating the shared cultural values between the United States and Fiji. The gathering attracted a large audience, including fans and members of the diplomatic community, underscoring the universal appeal of the event.
Guests enjoyed the game broadcast live on a large screen, paired with complimentary pizza, and participated in an engaging lucky draw that featured prizes such as American footballs. This event marked the first Super Bowl watch party hosted by the US Embassy in Suva, aiming to cultivate interest in American football through a Public Private Partnership established between the US Department of State and the National Football League (NFL). This collaboration seeks to introduce the sport to new audiences worldwide while promoting tourism and cultural exchange.
In addition, the embassy announced the upcoming “Decade of Sport in America,” which will kick off in 2024 and will showcase significant international sporting events in the United States. The NFL continues to promote American cultural values such as integrity, fair play, and mutual respect, all while striving to unite fans across the globe through a shared passion for sports.
The event not only served as a source of entertainment but also fostered community connections and encouraged cultural exchange through the love of football, creating a memorable experience for all attendees.
