Defending champions Fiji Police Force is steadfast in its preparations for the upcoming Ratu Sukuna Bowl clash against the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), scheduled for November 21 in Labasa. Team Manager and Director of Operations, SSP Wate Vocevoce, expressed confidence in the team’s readiness, noting that recovery from minor injuries is progressing well.
“We have faced some challenges during our preparations, particularly with injuries, but our players are on the mend,” Vocevoce stated. “I am confident they will be at 100 percent fitness for the match on November 21.” Many players returning from participation in the Skipper Cup are reportedly recovering well.
The Fiji Police team plans to depart for Labasa on Sunday to familiarize themselves with the northern weather conditions before the big match. Notably, even though four senior players are currently on tour in the Middle East, Vocevoce emphasized that there are ample capable players in the squad who have been active in top-level competitions and are prepared to step in seamlessly.
The theme for this year’s tournament is “United For Victory, Stronger Together Against Drugs and HIV.” Vocevoce highlighted the significance of the event as more than just a competition between security forces. “This is an opportunity to engage the community in a message against drugs and HIV, encouraging them to take ownership of their community alongside the Police,” he added.
This year’s Sukuna Bowl promises to not only showcase athletic prowess but also to unite the community in common causes. The clash between the Fiji Police Force and RFMF is a celebrated event that has a long-standing history, embodying both competition and camaraderie.
With the excitement surrounding their title defense building, the Fiji Police Force is ready to rise to the occasion, underscoring the importance of teamwork and community support. This event not only serves as a sporting spectacle but also as a platform for stronger community ties in the fight against social issues.
