Stallone Calls Jackson the Aggressor in Tulsa King, Sparks Spinoff Buzz

Sylvester Stallone recently discussed the dynamic between himself and Samuel L. Jackson in relation to the crime drama series “Tulsa King,” where he referred to Jackson as the “aggressor.” This description arose as Stallone spoke about Jackson’s recent entrance into the show during an interview with Us Weekly.

Stallone made it clear that he did not initiate Jackson’s involvement in the series. “He was the aggressor. He wanted to do it so badly,” Stallone stated. He explained that Jackson proactively approached the producer, which prompted the collaboration. Stallone emphasized Jackson’s renowned confidence and presence, saying, “He knows he’s got it. He knows he’s the man. He has a certain swagger.” Their interactions on set were described by Stallone as a riveting faceoff, akin to a high-stakes gunfight with Jackson’s character facing off against his, bringing out the best performance from Stallone.

The veteran actor revealed that working alongside someone as talented as Jackson can be both intimidating and inspiring. “Actors love to be challenged. At first, there may be a little intimidation, but once you get cooking… now you’re in it,” he noted, capturing the collaborative energy that fuels their performances.

Jackson made his highly anticipated debut as Russell Lee Washington Jr. in the penultimate episode of Season 3, titled “Dead Weight,” which was released on November 16. His character is introduced as a formidable hitman enlisted by Quiet Ray, played by James Russo, to confront Stallone’s character, Dwight Manfredi.

In addition to his role in “Tulsa King,” Jackson’s casting paves the way for his upcoming spinoff series, “Nola King,” which was announced in June. This new series will center around Russell as he navigates his return to New Orleans after a long absence, focusing on his efforts to reconnect with family and reclaim his past amid threats from both criminals and law enforcement.

Earlier in the month, Jackson expressed his excitement about joining Taylor Sheridan’s expanding television universe, noting that he has enjoyed “Tulsa King” since before discussions about his role began. His enthusiasm for the project, combined with Stallone’s insights, paints a promising picture for the series and its future developments.
