ANZ has officially named Sohaib Mahmood as the new Country Head for Fiji, pending regulatory approvals. Mahmood, who has extensive experience in the Pacific dating back to 2013, brings over 20 years of international banking expertise to his new role. He will continue serving as the Head of Commercial Banking for the Pacific region while stepping into this leadership position.
Mahmood’s career has taken him to key financial hubs such as London, Singapore, and Melbourne, where he has held various leadership roles throughout the Pacific, including in Samoa, Papua New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands. His prior experience as a Country Head has provided him with a comprehensive understanding of the region’s regulatory framework, economic conditions, and customer needs.
In his statement about the new appointment, Mahmood expressed his gratitude, saying, “Fiji plays a vital role in ANZ’s Pacific network, and I’m humbled by the opportunity to lead our business here. I look forward to working closely with our customers, regulators, partners, and communities as we continue to support Fiji’s economic ambitions.” He emphasized the strength of the local team, focusing on their shared mission to create positive outcomes for customers and contribute to the wider economy.
Sarah Stubbings, the Regional Executive for ANZ Pacific, commended Mahmood’s leadership and the continuity it brings to the bank’s operations. In the transition period ahead, Mahmood will work closely with the outgoing Country Head, Rabih Yazbek, ensuring a smooth handover.
