MARQUETTE, Mich. – An incoming snow system is set to blanket the area overnight into Wednesday morning, bringing with it a flurry of activity as a quick-moving clipper system makes its way across the region. Following this initial wave, lake effect snow is expected to develop due to northwest winds, persisting into Thursday. Snowfall totals are forecasted to reach between 3 to 6 inches in both the Western and Eastern Upper Peninsula, while lighter accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are anticipated in most other areas.
The weather pattern looks to remain dynamic throughout the week and into the weekend. Another clipper system is expected to arrive Friday into Saturday, resulting in additional light snow. This will be followed by more lake effect snow through Sunday.
Temperatures across the region will continue to fall below seasonal averages, influenced by an upper-level trough in the jet stream.
On Wednesday morning, expect widespread snow across the region, transitioning to lake effect snow by the afternoon. Highs will range from the low 20s in the west to the upper 20s in the eastern areas. Thursday will remain mostly cloudy with more lake effect snow, and high temperatures will shift to the low teens in the west and upper teens in the east.
As the week unfolds, Friday is set to bring cloud cover and light snow with highs in the low to mid 20s. Saturday’s forecast includes lake effect snow showers, with temperatures lingering in the upper teens to low 20s. Snow in the Eastern Upper Peninsula continues into Sunday, with highs projected in the low teens to upper teens, before light snow showers return on Monday.
