Two trains collided in Slovakia on Sunday evening when one train rear-ended the other, leaving many passengers injured, according to reports from local police and the country’s Interior Minister. The incident, which occurred in the railway corridor between the capital city of Bratislava and Pezinok, approximately 20 kilometers northeast of Bratislava, resulted in dozens sustaining minor injuries, with 11 passengers requiring hospital treatment. Thankfully, no fatalities were reported.
Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok, speaking from the crash site during a televised briefing, noted that preliminary investigations indicated there was neither a head-on collision nor any train derailments involved in the incident. Witness accounts described the crash as a loud “bang,” reflecting the intense moment of the accident.
This event marks the second train collision in Slovakia within a month, following another serious incident on October 13, where two trains collided in eastern Slovakia, injuring a total of 91 individuals.
