The Skipper Select team is gearing up for an exciting match against the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua, having set up camp in Sigatoka and training at the HPU Gym at Lawaqa Park. Head coach Rupeni Nasiga views this upcoming clash as a significant test, particularly in preparation for the Skipper Cup season.

Coach Nasiga reported that the team’s training is progressing well, despite some minor injury concerns affecting a few players who participated in the recent McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s. Emphasizing the importance of team dynamics, he noted that players are beginning to find their rhythm and settle into their positions.

“This match is a positive step for our development and provides a valuable opportunity for local players to demonstrate their skills as they vie for higher selection,” Nasiga remarked. He highlighted that the Skipper Select team, or Skipper XV, comprises talented players from the 2025 Skipper Cup provincial competition.

The highly anticipated pre-season match is scheduled for the 6th of next month in Lautoka. This showdown not only allows the Skipper Select team to test their mettle against a formidable opponent but also gives local players a chance to shine, potentially leading to future opportunities with the Drua. Meanwhile, the Fijian Drua is set to face the Chiefs next Friday in their first pre-season match at Mount Maunganui, further intensifying the competitive atmosphere as the rugby season approaches.
