Twenty new recycling bins have been introduced in Serua Province, marking an important advancement in waste management and climate action initiatives. This launch coincided with the global observance of World Wetlands Day, which was recently celebrated in Nabukelevu.
The initiative saw the allocation of eight bins for Nabukelevu Village, two for Nabukelevu District School, and five bins each for Naboutini Village and Nakorovou Village. The Ministry of Environment’s contributions extended further, as they also provided school supplies to Nabukelevu District School.
During the handover ceremony, attended by Minister for Environment and Climate Change Lynda Tabuya and British High Commissioner to Fiji Kanbar Hossein-Bor, the importance of effective waste disposal and sustainable practices was highlighted. Minister Tabuya underscored how this initiative plays a crucial role in environmental protection.
In response, the school staff conveyed their immense gratitude for the government’s support, informing that these resources would be highly beneficial for over 70 students. This collaborative initiative not only enhances local waste management efforts but also nurtures a sense of environmental responsibility within the youth. The provision of these resources represents a hopeful stride towards a cleaner and more sustainable future for the communities involved.
