The Ottawa Senators have made a significant move just ahead of the NHL trade deadline by acquiring forward Warren Foegele from the Los Angeles Kings. The announcement came on Thursday, revealing that the Senators will send a second-round draft pick in 2026, which they had obtained from the Buffalo Sabres, in exchange for the 29-year-old winger.

In addition to this trade, both teams will exchange conditional third-round draft selections. The Senators are set to receive the lesser of either the Kings’ or the Dallas Stars’ third-round pick in 2026, while the Kings will obtain the better of Ottawa’s or the Washington Capitals’ third-round pick for this year. Should both Ottawa and Washington miss the playoffs, the Senators will instead send the lesser of those two picks to Los Angeles.

This season, Foegele has recorded seven goals and two assists across 47 games for the Kings, marking his second season with the team. Previously, he achieved personal bests with 24 goals and 46 points in 82 games last season. Standing six feet two inches and weighing 205 pounds, Foegele hails from Markham, Ontario, and is under contract with a salary of $3.5 million through the 2026-27 season.

Originally drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes as the 67th overall pick in the third round of the 2014 NHL draft, Foegele enjoyed four seasons with the Hurricanes before being traded to the Edmonton Oilers in 2021. Following three seasons in Edmonton, he joined the Kings as a free agent in 2024.

The acquisition of Foegele presents an opportunity for the Senators to bolster their roster as they prepare for the final stretch of the season, showcasing the team’s commitment to competitiveness and growth.
