A secret ballot is underway at Nanuku Resort Fiji, as members of the Fiji Tourism Workers Union (FTWU) consider whether to take strike action following extensive negotiations with management over wages and working conditions. The union has been engaged in discussions for the past two years, aiming to secure better employment terms for its members.

Salesh Naidu, a consultant for the union, pointed out the lack of satisfactory progress in negotiations. The union’s key demands include a detailed formal log of claims outlining employment terms, a 10 percent wage increase for all members, guarantees that working hours will remain unchanged, and measures to prevent the suspension of employees without adequate notice or justification for minor issues.

Despite ongoing dialogue, the FTWU has expressed frustration with management’s failure to agree on these vital concerns. This impasse has prompted the decision to hold a secret ballot, giving members the chance to vote on the possibility of strike action to escalate their demands.

Scheduled for December 22, 2025, at 6:00 AM, the ballot will allow union members to express their views on the dispute. The results could have significant repercussions for the wages and working conditions of employees at Nanuku Resort Fiji, underscoring the crucial role of collective bargaining within the tourism industry. As this situation develops, it is hoped that both parties can reach an amicable resolution that prioritizes the well-being of the workers.
