The Seattle Seahawks have confirmed that rookie wide receiver Tory Horton is unlikely to return this season due to a shin injury, as stated by head coach Mike Macdonald during his media briefing on Friday. Horton, a fifth-round draft pick from Colorado State, has had an impressive season with 13 receptions for 161 yards and five touchdowns over just eight games. He also excelled in special teams, recording 16 punt returns for 238 yards, which included a franchise-record 95-yard punt return touchdown.

Horton suffered the injury in a Week 9 victory against the Washington Commanders on November 2 and was subsequently placed on injured reserve on November 22. “It just takes a long time to heal,” Macdonald noted, explaining that while the team is hopeful, they are not counting on Horton’s return this season. “It’s unfortunate… He’s doing a great job,” he added in support of the young receiver.

In response to Horton’s injury, the Seahawks made a strategic move by acquiring wide receiver Rashid Shaheed from the New Orleans Saints just two days later, on November 4. Shaheed has stepped into Horton’s position effectively, catching 14 passes for 186 yards since joining the Seahawks. Additionally, he has showcased his versatility with a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and a 58-yard punt return score.

As the team prepares for their upcoming match against the San Francisco 49ers, the Seahawks are optimistic about their prospects, focusing on the depth and talent of their roster, despite the setback with Horton.
