Saturday Night Live Season 51 Promises a Star-Studded December Slate

Season 51 of “Saturday Night Live” is currently underway, but viewers should note that there will not be a new episode this week. Instead, NBC is set to re-air the episode hosted by Amy Poehler, featuring musical guest Role Model, which originally aired on October 11.

The iconic sketch comedy show typically pauses for Thanksgiving, and following Glen Powell’s hosting stint on November 15 alongside musical guest Olivia Dean, SNL began a two-week break.

The show plans to return with a fresh episode on December 6, featuring beloved actress Melissa McCarthy as host alongside musical guest Dijon, marking his debut on the show. McCarthy, a veteran of SNL, is entering the prestigious five-time host club. Dijon is currently promoting his second album, “Baby,” which was released in August.

Looking further ahead, actor Josh O’Connor will make his SNL debut on December 13 while promoting his new film, “Wake Up Dead Man,” in which he portrays a young priest. The film hits theaters on November 26 and will be available on Netflix starting December 12. O’Connor will be joined by musical guest Lily Allen, who recently released her fifth album, “West End Girl,” in October.

Ariana Grande is scheduled to host the final episode of 2025 on December 21, with music legend Cher as the musical guest for the first time since 1987. Grande has established herself as an SNL staple, having previously hosted twice and performed as a musical guest three times.

Following Grande’s episode, SNL will take a holiday hiatus, with plans to return in mid-January.

The current season’s schedule includes a mix of exciting hosts and musical performances, capturing the spirit of live comedy that fans cherish. Saturday Night Live airs on NBC at 11:30 p.m. ET, with past episodes available for streaming on Peacock.
