Samuela Tawase, a 28-year-old man, has pleaded guilty to charges related to an incident of sacrilege at the Samabula Shiv Temple in Suva. The charges against Tawase include sacrilege and the act of throwing objects during the alleged event which took place on July 11.
After his initial court appearance, Tawase was evaluated by the St Giles Psychiatric Evaluation Department to assess his mental fitness for trial, and the report confirmed that he was capable of understanding the proceedings and entering a plea.
In court today, Tawase formally pleaded guilty before Magistrate Yogesh Prasad. Following this plea, he has been remanded further and is scheduled to reappear in court in 14 days.
