Fiji’s football star Roy Krishna has cited family as his main motivation for joining Bula FC, marking a significant step in his illustrious career. Krishna recently signed with Bula FC for the very first season of Oceania’s inaugural professional football league, a milestone event for the region.
His journey has taken him across the globe, playing in countries such as New Zealand, Australia, and India, where prestigious clubs were eager to invest heavily in securing the services of the Labasa-born player. Despite the thrilling aspects of his career, Krishna expressed that it often came at the cost of missing valuable moments with his family. The chance to play for Bula FC represents not only a return to his roots but also a chance to balance his professional aspirations with family time.
“My motivation was probably coming home; being around my family was the biggest factor,” Krishna shared. He also communicated his appreciation for the coaching staff, who made the transition smooth. “Everything was easy, and I’m really glad to be home,” he added.
During the initial training sessions, Krishna noted the rigorous preparation his teammates are undergoing, as they gear up for a significant leap in competition level. “It’s very exciting but tough training, and this is what professional football is about,” he remarked. Recognizing the challenges ahead, he acknowledged the struggle his teammates are facing with their running and conditioning, but he remains optimistic that these efforts will yield benefits once the season commences.
Bula FC is set to kick off their OFC Pro League campaign against Vanuatu FC on January 23, in the inaugural match at Eden Park, Auckland. As part of this new chapter, Roy Krishna will don the number 21 jersey, adding a personal touch to his return to football in Fiji.
