Rio rolls out traffic plan for Fluminense–Flamengo clash at Maracanã

The Rio de Janeiro City Operations and Resilience Center (COR-Rio) announced a special traffic operation set for tonight, October 19, due to the much-anticipated match between Fluminense and Flamengo at the Maracanã Stadium, scheduled for 9:30 PM (local time). As per the CET-Rio, various roads surrounding the stadium will be closed starting at 6:30 PM, with planned reopening at 1:30 AM on October 20. Parking in the area will also be prohibited from 10 AM onwards.

The main goal of this operational plan is to ensure smooth traffic flow, enhance safety, and improve pedestrian movement for fans attending the match. Technicians stationed at COR-Rio will monitor conditions and have the ability to adjust traffic light timings in real time to manage vehicular flow effectively.

– Rua Visconde de Itamarati (between Rua São Francisco Xavier and Avenida Professor Eurico Rabelo)
– Avenida Maracanã (direction Centro, between Rua São Francisco Xavier and Rua Mata Machado)
– Avenida Rei Pelé (two lanes closed in the direction of Centro from Avenida Professor Manoel de Abreu to the Museu do Índio)
– Rua Mata Machado (between Avenida Paula Sousa and Avenida Maracanã)
– Avenida Professor Manoel de Abreu (direction Centro, between Rua São Francisco Xavier and Avenida Rei Pelé)

From 7:30 PM on October 19 to 1:30 AM on October 20:

– Avenida Rei Pelé (Radial Oeste, direction Centro, between Rua São Francisco Xavier and Aldeia Maracanã/Museu do Índio)
– Avenida Maracanã (direction Alto da Boa Vista, between Rua Mata Machado and Rua São Francisco Xavier)
– Rua Mata Machado (between Avenida Paula Sousa and Avenida Maracanã)
– Viaduto Oduvaldo Cozzi and its access routes

Parking prohibitions will apply from 10 AM on October 19 to 1:30 AM on October 20 on:

– Rua Visconde de Itamarati (between Rua São Francisco Xavier and Rua Professor Eurico Rabelo)
– Rua Professor Eurico Rabelo
– Rua Isidro de Figueiredo
– Rua Artur Menezes
– Rua Conselheiro Olegário
– Avenida Paula Sousa (left side, between Rua São Francisco Xavier and Rua Professor Eurico Rabelo)

As for alternative routes, those coming from the Center and Zona Sul can take Avenida Paulo de Frontin and Rua Dr. Satamini, or opt for Praça da Bandeira, Rua Pará/Paraíba, and Rua Mariz e Barros. Vehicles heading to Tijuca can utilize these or other specific paths. The CET-Rio will have agents and traffic support staff at strategic locations to assist in managing the flow, supplemented by thirteen variable message panels to guide drivers regarding road closures and alternative paths.

This operational support reflects a concerted effort to enhance safety and accessibility during one of the most significant rivalries in Brazilian football, ensuring a smooth experience for all fans attending the match.
