This move came in the wake of a scandal involving the former CEO, Andy Byron, who was filmed in an intimate moment with former HR executive Kristin Cabot at a Coldplay concert.
During a Q&A session at the Wall Street Journal’s CMO Council Summit, Reynolds, aged 49, reflected on the moment his company, Maximum Effort, decided to step in and create the promotional spot. He explained, “Just 14 hours later, I’m paying for that, and I didn’t have their blessing yet, but I knew that nobody at that time … knew what Astronomer does. So I was like, ‘What if Gwyneth explained it?’”
Reynolds emphasized that he viewed this as a pivotal chance to shift the narrative away from the toxic atmosphere that had emerged in the company after the incident. “It was a real opportunity for them to take the conversation away from where it was, which was quite toxic … and really focus on something that mattered,” he noted, highlighting the impressive work being done by Astronomer.
The incident involving Byron and Cabot, who were both working at Astronomer at the time, captured public attention and led to their resignations. The company stated that its leadership was not upholding expected standards of conduct. Following the fallout, Cabot filed for divorce from her husband, while Byron has not commented publicly on the matter.
In Paltrow’s PSA for Astronomer, which was shared across the company’s social media platforms, she acknowledged the wave of questions that arose following the scandal. She humorously addressed some inquiries, including one asking, “OMG! What the actual f—?” although she chose not to answer directly. Paltrow concluded the segment by reaffirming Astronomer’s commitment to delivering results for its clients.
