Inter Miami’s 2025 season concluded as one of the most outstanding periods in the club’s brief existence, raising expectations for future campaigns. However, with several key players departing, the franchise is actively pursuing ways to maintain a competitive roster around superstar Lionel Messi. On Monday, the Herons made a significant announcement regarding a new addition to their squad aimed at filling the gap left by the retiring Jordi Alba.
Inter Miami officially confirmed the signing of Sergio Reguilon, the accomplished Spanish left back and former Real Madrid player, through a social media announcement. Reguilon brings a wealth of experience from a range of European leagues, enhancing the team’s depth and quality as Inter Miami aspires for long-term success.
The club disclosed that Reguilon signed a contract extending through December 2027, with an option for an additional year until December 2028. In his first comments as a member of Inter Miami, Reguilon expressed enthusiasm about the commitment required to step into the role previously held by Alba.
“This is a very ambitious project, a winning club that is doing things the right way,” Reguilon stated. “That’s what attracted me: coming here to keep winning and competing. My objective is to pursue the trophies we’re missing and win everything here.”
Reguilon’s career began in Real Madrid’s youth academy, where he joined at the age of nine and progressed through various levels before making his first-team debut in October 2018. He contributed to the squad that won the FIFA Club World Cup during the 2018–2019 season, but soon after, he embarked on a pivotal loan to Sevilla FC.
During his time with Sevilla in the 2019–2020 season, Reguilon emerged as one of La Liga’s top left backs, playing a crucial role in the team’s UEFA Europa League triumph. This success propelled him to a move to the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur, where he initially thrived before encountering several loan spells, including stints at Atletico Madrid, Manchester United, and Brentford FC.
Now, as he steps into a new chapter of his career with the challenge of aligning with Messi on the field, Reguilon aims to contribute to Inter Miami’s aspirations of capturing additional trophies and further solidifying their place in soccer’s competitive landscape. This signing signals the club’s commitment to maintaining its momentum and striving for excellence in the years to come.
