A rat aboard a KLM Airlines flight created significant disruption for over 250 passengers, leading to the cancellation of their connecting journey from Aruba via Bonaire to Amsterdam. The incident has been described as “frustrating and unpleasant” by a spokesperson for the airline, who emphasized that the safety and wellbeing of passengers and crew are their top priorities.
The rat first made its appearance while the aircraft was en route to Aruba. Footage from the Dutch publication Telegraaf displayed the rodent crawling along the cabin’s curtain rails, and it caused further commotion by jumping into overhead bins and into passengers’ belongings. KLM air travel from Amsterdam to Aruba typically spans around ten hours, and with such a long journey, the discovery of a rat was understandably alarming.
KLM representatives stated that it remains unclear how the rat managed to board the flight, noting it was discovered over the ocean. “Very unfortunate for the passengers who had to experience this,” they remarked. Due to the incident, the return flight from Aruba scheduled for December 10 was canceled to ensure the aircraft could undergo a thorough cleaning before being put back into service. KLM has since provided passengers with overnight accommodation as they worked to arrange alternate flights.
