Raiders Lean on Rookie WRs After Meyers Trade Ahead of Cowboys Week 11

In their Week 10 matchup against the Denver Broncos, the Las Vegas Raiders gave rookie wide receivers Dont’e Thornton Jr. and Jack Bech a chance to step up following the trade of Jakobi Meyers. Unfortunately, both players struggled to capitalize on their opportunity, making critical errors that hindered the team’s performance.

Bech was involved in a significant holding penalty that negated a promising run by Ashton Jeanty, while Thornton’s pass interference penalty on a key 4th-and-2 play erased a potential conversion and touchdown opportunity. Adding to their troubles, Thornton also dropped a deep ball from Geno Smith that could have secured three important points just before halftime.

Despite their mistakes, it’s essential for the Raiders to continue offering Thornton and Bech chances to grow, especially with a matchup against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 11. Following their Thursday night loss, the Raiders have had a mini-bye week, which Head Coach Pete Carroll and his staff can utilize to help the rookies learn from their missteps.

In the game against the Broncos, Tyler Lockett led the Raiders in receiving with five catches for 44 yards. This level of production is concerning, especially considering Lockett joined the team only two weeks prior and is regarded as being past his prime.

With a disappointing season record of 2-7, it is crucial for the Raiders to focus on developing their young talents. Although both Thornton and Bech have yet to meet expectations, there is significant potential within them that deserves nurturing. The Raiders are committed to supporting and teaching these players to help them improve and contribute to the team’s future success.
