The Harrisburg Area Transportation Study is seeking input from residents on the placement of federally funded electric vehicle charging stations across Dauphin, Cumberland, and Perry counties. This initiative aims to guide decisions regarding the allocation of federal infrastructure funds.
As part of the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Formula Program, this effort targets the establishment of charging networks, initially focused on “alternative fuel corridors” like interstates, but now expanding to support community charging needs across the region.
Residents are encouraged to participate in a public survey that will remain open until February 28. The survey features 13 questions, including a map for suggesting potential charging station locations, as well as a section for sharing thoughts on electric vehicle chargers. It is estimated that completing the survey will take about 15 minutes, and officials emphasize the importance of public opinion in determining the final placements of the chargers.
Andrew Bomberger, executive director of the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission, stated, “We are slated to get somewhere between $3 million and $4 million for our region for these community charging stations. We partner with PennDOT on these planning efforts, focusing on identifying priority communities and use cases.”
The survey provides an opportunity for local residents to contribute to the development of the electric vehicle infrastructure in their neighborhoods, promoting sustainability and accessibility in transportation.
