The trailer for Anthony Maras’ upcoming film “Pressure” has been released, generating excitement ahead of its theatrical debut on May 29 in the U.S., courtesy of Focus Features. The film is a collaboration between Working Title and Studiocanal and promises to deliver a gripping portrayal of the critical moments leading up to D-Day during World War II.
Written by David Haig, who also adapted it from his acclaimed play, “Pressure” dramatizes the intense 72 hours surrounding Operation Overlord, recognized as the largest and most perilous seaborne invasion in history with an estimated 300,000 troops involved. The narrative highlights the significant challenges posed by unpredictable weather conditions during this pivotal military operation.
Brendan Fraser stars as General Dwight Eisenhower, while Andrew Scott portrays meteorologist Captain James Stagg, who faces immense personal and professional pressure as he navigates conflicting weather predictions that could impact the invasion’s timing. The film explores the growing tensions between Stagg’s team and those advocating for a “calm and sunny” D-Day, a perspective represented by Chris Messina’s character. Messina’s confident remarks are starkly countered by Stagg’s insistence on the dire reality of the storms threatening the invasion.
Joining Fraser, Scott, and Messina in the cast are Damian Lewis, who takes on the role of Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery. The project is produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Cass Marks, and Lucas Webb, with executive producers including Anna Marsh and Anthony Maras.
Focus Features secured the U.S. distribution rights for “Pressure” at the American Film Market, continuing its partnership with Working Title, which previously yielded success with the award-winning WWII film “Darkest Hour.” With its rich historical backdrop and compelling character dynamics, “Pressure” is poised to resonate with audiences and contribute to the growing catalog of cinematic representations of World War II.
