KATHMANDU: Beloved singer and actor Prashant Tamang has tragically passed away at his residence in New Delhi, India. Filmmaker Rajesh Ghatani confirmed the news, while fellow Darjeeling singer Mahesh Sewa stated that Tamang reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest.

Born on January 4, 1983, in Darjeeling, West Bengal, Tamang gained prominence after winning the third season of the renowned reality TV show Indian Idol in 2007. His victory catapulted him to stardom, especially among Nepali audiences, and he became known for numerous hit songs that continue to resonate with fans.

In addition to his successful music career, Tamang made a name for himself in the Nepali film industry, appearing in movies such as Gorkha Paltan, Pardeshi, and Pardeshi 2. In recent years, he lived in Delhi, where he spent his final moments.

Before embarking on his illustrious career, Tamang faced personal tragedies, including the loss of his father in an accident, which led him to leave school and join the Kolkata Police as a constable. It was during his tenure in the police force that he discovered his passion for music, performing with the police orchestra.

Tamang’s marriage to flight attendant Geeta Thapa (Martha Alley) on February 16, 2011, in Nagaland, India, added another chapter to his life story.

His unexpected passing has left a significant void in the hearts of many, but the legacy of his contributions to music and film will undoubtedly continue to inspire future generations.
