Dave Portnoy, the President of Barstool Sports, revealed in a recent interview with “CBS Sunday Morning” that he has been encountering daily antisemitism, a marked increase from the occasional hate speech he previously faced. Portnoy expressed his concerns during a conversation with host Tony Dokoupil, which is set to air on Sunday.
During the interview, Portnoy highlighted a troubling shift in societal attitudes, stating, “It’s every day now. Like, there’s a definitive shift in what’s going on.” This sentiment was underscored by a recent incident in Mississippi, where Portnoy was subjected to an antisemitic remark while filming a “One Bite” pizza review. Although this incident occurred after the interview was recorded, it reinforces the concerning trend of rising hateful comments aimed at him and others.
Portnoy emphasized the necessity of speaking out against such hate, particularly as a member of the Jewish community. He remarked, “For me, being a Jewish person, like, you got to step up. You’re kind of someone people look up to in the Jewish community. You have to be, like, ‘All right, this is not normal ha-ha with the guys. People are coming up with real hate.’”
This stance illustrates not only Portnoy’s commitment to confronting antisemitism but also highlights the broader issue of rising intolerance that individuals of all backgrounds must face. The full interview with Dokoupil will be available for viewers on November 16.
