The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua faces another significant departure as winger Ponipate Loganimasi has secured an overseas contract with Sale Sharks, effective from the start of the 2026/2027 season. This move comes as a considerable loss for the Drua, marking Loganimasi as the second key player to leave the team at the end of the current Super Rugby Pacific season; Joji Nasova has already confirmed his departure to join the English Premiership side Newcastle Red Bulls.
Loganimasi’s exit will undoubtedly create a gap in the Drua’s lineup, prompting other squad members to rise to the occasion and fill the void left by his departure. There is also the potential opportunity for the Drua to recruit another Fijian player currently playing overseas, which could bolster the team’s strength.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the move, Loganimasi stated, “I’m so excited about coming to Sale. It’ll be my first time outside Fiji and I’m looking forward to playing in a new competition to learn and develop my game.” He highlighted his eagerness to integrate with his new teammates, mentioning familiarity with some Sale players from international matches and expressing excitement about playing alongside renowned players like George Ford.
Having made a name for himself as a former Fiji 7s player, Loganimasi was under contract with the Drua for two years. His forthcoming journey opens new doors not only for him but also presents an opportunity for the Drua to explore fresh talent in the competitive rugby scene. As the team prepares for these transitions, fans remain hopeful for the next chapter in both Loganimasi’s career and the Drua’s future endeavors.
