Adolis Garcia and the Philadelphia Phillies have reportedly reached an agreement on a one-year contract worth $10 million, according to Francys Romero. Garcia, who will turn 33 in March, was non-tendered by the Texas Rangers last November after experiencing two consecutive underwhelming offensive seasons.

Despite his recent struggles, Garcia played a significant role in the Rangers’ successful 2023 World Series campaign, where he posted a regular-season batting line of .245/.328/.508 and excelled in the postseason with .323/.382/.726. His defensive prowess earned him a Gold Glove award for his play in right field, showcasing his capability on the field.

However, Garcia’s performance has noticeably declined in the past two years, registering a batting average of .225 along with a .278 on-base percentage and a .397 slugging percentage. This downturn has resulted in below-average offensive statistics, highlighted by a 98 OPS+ in 2024 and a 93 OPS+ in 2025. His expected weighted on-base average (xwOBA) dropped from .366 in 2023 to just .304 in 2025, reflecting a concerning trend in his offensive output and overall effectiveness.

Notably, Garcia showed improvement defensively in 2025 after a rough 2024 season, boasting a +16 Defensive Runs Saved (DRS) despite his offensive struggles. There was a stark contrast between his bWAR and fWAR, with Garcia producing a 2.7 bWAR compared to a 0.7 fWAR, a discrepancy largely attributed to the different methodologies of the two metrics.

The $10 million contract marks an increase over the $9.25 million Garcia earned in the previous year but remains below his arbitration projections. The Phillies are in need of a right-handed outfield bat, and Garcia could serve as a replacement for Nick Castellanos, who outperformed Garcia in offensive metrics last season but has been criticized for his defensive liabilities. With Garcia’s track record as a contributor in crucial moments, the Phillies hope he can regain form and bolster their lineup heading into the upcoming season.
