After three years since its conclusion, fans of Peaky Blinders can look forward to a new chapter in the form of a feature film titled Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man. A teaser has recently been unveiled, showcasing Cillian Murphy reprising his iconic role as Tommy Shelby. The video hints at Tommy’s struggle with his past as he grapples with the violent legacy left behind by the Peaky Blinders gang.

The teaser opens with a haunting question: “Whatever happened to Tommy Shelby? The famous gypsy gangster?” This inquiry is juxtaposed with scenes of a brooding Murphy, who asserts, “I’m not that man anymore.” However, he quickly finds that leaving behind a life filled with violence and crime may not be as straightforward as he hoped. Merely moments later, another voice urges him: “Tommy… you’ve got to come back.”

According to the official logline for the film, it will be set in 1940 Birmingham amid the turmoil of World War II. The synopsis reveals that Tommy Shelby is drawn back from self-imposed exile to confront a devastating reckoning, with the future of both his family and the country hanging in the balance. The film’s narrative focuses on Tommy’s internal struggles and the choice between facing his dark history or completely abandoning it.

Peaky Blinders, created by Steven Knight, originally aired on the BBC and concluded its sixth season on Netflix in June 2022. The final season left viewers with shocking revelations, including the surprising twist that Tommy’s earlier diagnosis of a terminal brain tumor was part of a larger ruse.

The film promises to explore the consequences of his past actions and the toll they take on his relationships, particularly following his wife Lizzie’s departure. In a symbolic gesture of turning away from his past life, Tommy destroys his mansion, marking a definitive end to his criminal endeavors. Yet, as the teaser indicates, this fresh start may soon be threatened.

Joining Murphy in the film are notable actors including Rebecca Ferguson, Sophie Rundle, Tim Roth, Stephen Graham, and Barry Keoghan.

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is set to hit select theaters on March 6, with a subsequent release on Netflix on March 20. The anticipation surrounding the film signals not only a revival of interest in the beloved franchise but also the exploration of deep personal and societal themes in turbulent times.
