Paris Hilton has opened up about her experience with rejection sensitivity dysphoria (RSD), likening it to having “a demon in your mind.” In a recent episode of The Him & Her Show hosted by Lauryn and Michael Bosstick, Hilton shared her journey with the condition, which she was diagnosed with after initially being identified with ADHD in her late twenties.

RSD is characterized by intense emotional pain stemming from feelings of rejection or failure, with many affected individuals perceiving even the slightest negative feedback as profoundly painful. Hilton described this experience, expressing how moments of perceived negativity can feel physical, although they stem from the mind. She emphasized the importance of recognizing when these feelings arise as a result of RSD, stating that people with the condition experience emotions on an exceptionally deep level.

Hilton reflected on the challenges she faced growing up, particularly during a time when ADHD was not widely discussed, especially in relation to girls. She shared how her undiagnosed ADHD impacted her education, leading to confusion and difficulties in school. Despite these challenges, she wants others to understand that RSD does not have to be a hindrance; in fact, it can be harnessed as a source of strength to pursue dreams.

Her advocacy extends beyond mental health. Recently, Hilton demonstrated her commitment to supporting victims of online abuse by participating in a protest in Washington, D.C., advocating for the DEFIANCE Act. This bipartisan legislation aims to empower victims of AI deepfakes by allowing them to sue those who create and distribute non-consensual content. At the event, Hilton spoke candidly about her past experience with the leak of a private video, emphasizing the need to address the abuse surrounding such violations rather than dismissing them as scandals.

Hilton’s approach to her diagnosis and advocacy work highlights her determination to shift the narrative about mental health and online abuse. By reframing her own struggles as potential avenues for empowerment, she hopes to inspire others to take control of their narratives and seek help. Her efforts serve as a beacon of hope for those facing similar challenges, encouraging them to embrace their journeys toward recovery and empowerment.
