Paramount+ has announced an exciting expansion of the beloved Avatar Universe with the upcoming animated film “The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender” and a new series titled “Avatar: Seven Havens.” Both productions will be exclusive to Paramount+ and are set to enrich the narrative landscape of the franchise, captivating a wide audience.
The animated film “The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender” is scheduled to premiere in Fall 2026 and boasts an impressive cast including Taika Waititi, Geraldine Viswanathan, Dee Bradley Baker, Freida Pinto, and Ke Huy Quan, in addition to previously announced actors Dave Bautista, Eric Nam, Jessica Matten, Dionne Quan, Román Zaragoza, and Steven Yeun. The film is directed by Lauren Montgomery with Steve Ahn and William Mata as co-directors, while the creators of the original series, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, take on producer roles alongside several others, ensuring the essence of the franchise remains intact. Jeremy Zuckerman will also return as the composer for both the film and series.
The storyline centers around Avatar Aang, who learns of an ancient power critical to saving his culture from extinction. He embarks on a monumental quest alongside his friends to recover this power before it can be misused, jeopardizing the peace they struggled to maintain.
In addition, “Avatar: Seven Havens” will take viewers into a world that has faced cataclysm, featuring a young Earthbender who discovers her identity as the new Avatar, succeeding Korra. In this tumultuous era, the title of Avatar brings with it a dangerous reputation, as she becomes the target of both human and spirit adversaries. Alongside her long-lost twin, she must navigate her newfound role and uncover their shared origins to protect the Seven Havens—civilization’s last strongholds.
Produced by Nickelodeon Animation, “Avatar: Seven Havens” is structured into two books with a total of 26 half-hour episodes, demonstrating a significant investment into expanding the Avatar Universe. Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko will co-create and executive produce this ambitious project, along with Ethan Spaulding and Sehaj Sethi.
With the addition of these new ventures, Paramount+ continues to solidify its position as the exclusive streaming destination for Avatar content, which already includes the critically acclaimed “The Legend of Korra” and “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” the latter of which has consistently ranked among Nielsen’s Top 100 most-streamed titles since its debut in March 2023.
Paramount+ is rapidly growing its portfolio of compelling content, now making strides into the realm of animated storytelling with the Avatar franchise, delivering rich tales that resonate with longtime fans and new audiences alike.
