“Palm Royale” has kicked off its highly anticipated Season 2 with an electrifying premiere that leaves fans buzzing with questions about the fate of Ricky Martin’s character, Robert. The season picks up where the thrilling finale of Season 1 left off: with Robert bleeding on the floor after being shot by Mary (Julia Duffy) during her attempt to assassinate President Nixon.

As curiosity mounts over whether Robert survived, creator Abe Sylvia tantalizingly comments, “Well, we’re not saying he (dies). This is a classic soap opera cliffhanger.” He also hints that if viewers look carefully, Robert is still breathing, suggesting there may still be hope for him.

The premiere on November 12 sets a vibrant tone with a spectacular musical number. Maxine Dellacorte, portrayed by Kristen Wiig, returns to the Palm Royale and is served a martini instead of her usual drink. Upon inquiring about Robert’s whereabouts, she discovers he’s preparing for a grand performance. Viewers are treated to a dazzling display as Robert, dressed in a glimmering tuxedo, sings “Comin’ Home Baby,” surrounded by dancers and backup singers. The lavish production is described by Sylvia as the “musical number of my dreams,” showcasing his passion for classic movie musicals.

However, things take a darker turn when Robert is shot mid-performance, leading Maxine to recall the events from Season 1. It becomes clear that Maxine is grappling with hallucinations and is admitted to a mental institution called Sunny Tides, where she finds herself constantly longing for Robert. Meanwhile, Robert is shown unconscious in a hospital bed, raising further questions about his condition and his future interactions with Norma (Carol Burnett), who is keeping a close watch on him.

As the episode unfolds, Norma begins to unravel the truth about her identity and her connection to Robert. The suspense builds with dramatic moments, such as Maxine’s secret visit to Robert’s hospital room where she overhears the doctor’s grave prognosis, mentioning that Robert is “touch and go.” The tension peaks when Robert finally wakes up to utter, “Agnes,” teasing potential developments in the story arc concerning his character.

The season promises to explore a blend of humor and chilling elements inspired by ‘60s horror films, which Sylvia aims to infuse into the overarching narrative. The show’s creators are committed to keeping audiences on the edge of their seats while also delivering their characteristic laughs.

Both Martin and Wiig note that maintaining Robert’s fate as a secret has been challenging but entertaining. With new episodes of “Palm Royale” airing every Wednesday on Apple TV+, viewers are urged to stay tuned for the twists and turns that lie ahead, as the excitement of the evolving storyline continues to unfold.
