The Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) is set to enhance regional unity in the coming year by adhering to the leaders’ decisions outlined in the 2050 Strategy, which emphasizes peace, external engagement, and global advocacy. PIF Secretary General Baron Waqa highlighted the significance of unity in the current complex geostrategic landscape, stating that the PIF serves as the primary political platform for dialogue and collective decision-making in the region.

Waqa noted that this year, leaders advanced the Blue Pacific vision through the Ocean of Peace Declaration, reflecting the region’s dedication to promoting peace, stability, and open dialogue. With the next phase now underway, the emphasis will shift toward the implementation of the Ocean of Peace Declaration and fostering engagement with member states, partners, and various regional institutions.

The PIF has made strides in several crucial areas this year, including enhancing climate resilience, boosting economic connectivity, and fostering regional cooperation, alongside a review of the regional administrative framework. Looking forward, Waqa affirmed that PIF will concentrate on fruitful implementation and regional integration, ensuring that climate resilience, economic connectivity, and the reinforcement of regional systems remain at the forefront of its agenda.

The organization will also prioritize global engagement and advocacy per the 2026 Leaders Policy, aimed at ensuring that partnerships align with regional priorities, fortify unity, and maintain the integrity of the Pacific Islands. This continued focus on collaboration and proactive measures underlines PIF’s commitment to the region’s shared future and stability.
