The Pacific Forensic Working Group (PFWG) convened today, emphasizing the need to bolster forensic capabilities within the region. Acting Commissioner of Police Mesake Waqa inaugurated the three-day event, which brings together forensic experts from 16 Pacific Island nations, including Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, and Papua New Guinea.
During his opening remarks, Commissioner Waqa underscored the changing nature of crime that demands contemporary investigative techniques. He called on attendees to align forensic standards, improve governance, and forge enduring collaborations that will extend beyond the current meeting.
The PFWG, which receives support from the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police and the Australian Federal Police, is dedicated to advancing sustainable initiatives focused on enhancing forensic capacity throughout the Pacific region. This collaborative effort aims to create a stronger network of forensic expertise, ultimately leading to more effective crime-solving strategies and improved public safety across the islands.
