OWEGO, N.Y. — Community organizers are energetically preparing for the upcoming Owego Strawberry Festival, set to take place this summer. Co-chairs Wendy Post and Pat Hansen lead a dedicated committee composed of members including Patrick Gavin, John Loftus, Peter Gordon, Michelle McLaren, and Heather Gunther. These long-time community contributors aim to ensure that the festival in 2026 will be a remarkable success.
The volunteer committee is in the midst of a thorough planning process, which includes securing sponsorships, reviewing vendor applications, and arranging entertainment for the two-day festival. Organizers are keen to involve community members from across the county to help build a robust framework for this beloved event.
Scheduled for June 19 and 20, this year’s festival theme is “Sweet Liberty,” reflecting the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The festival will kick off with a timed 5K Walk and Run at Hickories Park on June 18.
At the festival, attendees can look forward to over 20 live band performances, culminating in an evening block party on Friday, June 19, which will feature grand fireworks. A vibrant parade is planned for Saturday, June 20, showcasing local youth groups, veterans, organizations, and businesses, all coming together to celebrate Owego’s community spirit.
Those interested in participating in the 5K Walk and Run can register through the Owego Strawberry Festival website. As the event nears, the planning committee will continue to provide public updates via the Owego Marketplace website.
This year’s festival not only promises to be a joyous celebration for the community but also serves as a way to honor an important historical milestone. The committee’s efforts reflect the strong community bonds that Owego cherishes, ensuring that the festival will be a memorable occasion for all involved.
