UCare has announced that over 300,000 individuals will transition to Medica, following a new agreement between the two nonprofit health plans based in Minnesota. This comes after UCare decided to terminate its Medicare Advantage plans for the coming year.

Under the terms of the agreement, individuals currently enrolled in UCare’s 2026 Medicaid and Individual and Family Plans will continue to receive their services without any interruptions. This decision aligns with UCare’s earlier announcement regarding the termination of its Medicare Advantage contracts, reflecting a shift in their service offerings.

Hilary Marden-Resnik, UCare’s President and CEO, emphasized the importance of the agreement, stating, “This is a significant agreement that will enable us to preserve access to coverage for Minnesota’s most vulnerable members.”

Lisa Erickson will continue in her role as President and CEO of Medica. She expressed commitment to ensuring continuity of care, stating that it will be the primary focus in the upcoming weeks and months as the transition takes place.

Regarding UCare employees, Medica is collaborating with UCare on transition planning and aims to integrate UCare staff into its workforce. The organization will assess available positions in the near future.

This transition represents a significant shift in healthcare coverage for many Minnesotans and highlights the ongoing efforts to ensure that individuals continue to receive quality care amidst organizational changes. The collaboration between UCare and Medica illustrates a commitment to supporting vulnerable populations during this period of adjustment.
