The Olympic flame is making its way through Sicily following a recent stop in the historic city of Catania, as part of its journey to promote the 2026 Winter Games. This event is a significant segment of a two-month torch relay traversing various regions of Italy.

The iconic flame was originally ignited last month in ancient Olympia, Greece, the revered birthplace of the Olympic Games, before being ceremoniously handed over to Italian officials in early December. As part of its journey, the flame will cover an impressive 12,000 kilometers and is scheduled to visit all 110 provinces across Italy, reaching over 300 towns and cities along the way.

Furthermore, celebratory events are planned at 60 different locations throughout the relay, creating an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation for the upcoming Winter Olympics. Italy’s rich history with the Winter Games, notably as the host of the 2006 event in Turin, adds to the significance of this relay as it rekindles national pride and community spirit in the lead-up to the 2026 Games. The journey of the Olympic flame brings together diverse communities, highlighting Italy’s dedication to the Olympic movement and its cultural heritage.
