Oxford, Miss. – In an exciting development for Ole Miss football, head coach Pete Golding and his staff have bolstered their roster by signing wide receiver Johntay Cook, a talented player with a strong background in collegiate football. Cook, previously a standout at Syracuse, joins the Rebels just two days after the addition of fellow transfer, Darrell Gill Jr.

A Texas native, Cook’s impressive high school career saw him ranked among the top 50 players in the nation, as well as participating in the prestigious 2023 Under Armour All-American game. His exceptional performance at DeSoto High School culminated in a state championship and an All-State designation, leading him to commit to the Texas Longhorns.

At Texas, the 6-foot-0, 200-pound receiver showcased his potential over two seasons, recording 16 receptions for over 250 yards and two touchdowns while contributing to the team’s College Football Playoff run. After the 2024 season, he decided to enter the transfer portal and joined Syracuse, where he made a significant impact in the ACC with 45 receptions for 549 yards and two touchdowns.

As he transitions to Ole Miss for the 2026 season, Cook promises to be a key asset for the Rebels’ offense, providing reliable support for any of the quarterbacks, including Trinidad Chambliss, Deuce Knight, AJ Maddox, or Walker Howard. This addition enhances the wide receivers unit under the guidance of coach John David Baker and signifies a positive step forward for Ole Miss as they look to strengthen their competitive edge in the upcoming season.
