Hollywood star Julia Roberts is set to reprise her role in a third sequel to the beloved Ocean’s franchise, with the film titled Ocean’s Fourteen. Confirming the exciting news, George Clooney announced that filming is expected to commence later this year. The sequel will bring back key cast members from the original 2001 film, including Roberts, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, and Don Cheadle.

Clooney shared that his inspiration for the film stems from the 1979 comedy-drama Going In Style, which follows a group of elderly criminals. He expressed that the theme of aging yet retaining cleverness in pulling off heists resonates with him, stating, “There was something about the idea that we’re too old to do what we used to do but we’re still smart enough to know how to get away with something, that appeals to me.” He adds that the characters may face challenges due to their age but will find innovative ways to navigate these limitations.

The original Ocean’s Eleven, which revolves around a team of con artists executing a high-stakes heist in Las Vegas, was followed by sequels Ocean’s Twelve in 2004 and Ocean’s Thirteen in 2007. The franchise also saw an all-female spin-off, Ocean’s Eight, released in 2018, which hinted at the potential death of Clooney’s character, Danny Ocean, yet suggested that his demise might have been staged, paving the way for a possible return.

Adding to the Ocean’s universe, Margot Robbie is also working on a prequel set in the 1960s alongside Bradley Cooper, with filming for this project anticipated to begin this year as well. This dual development within the Ocean’s series showcases the enduring appeal of the franchise as it continues to explore varied narratives while featuring an ensemble cast that fans have come to love.
