As December unfolds, many individuals begin to embrace the festive spirit of Christmas. However, this year, it is advisable to postpone the display of outdoor decorations for at least another week due to weather conditions forecasted in the Northwest.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood watch and wind advisory indicating that parts of Oregon and Washington may experience adverse weather. Residents are encouraged to take precautions, particularly if they have outdoor decorations planned for the holiday season.

Ted Brockwood, a longtime enthusiast of holiday decorations, has been brightening his home on Peacock Lane for 23 years. He shared his experiences with the unpredictable Northwest weather, which has tested his exterior lights over the years. “We’ve had the lights come off the house in a windstorm. The rain’s done a number in the past. So, we try to like get everything laid out, which is why you have all these weird sticks everywhere. And then we put it away if we know bad weather is coming. But once the lights are on, there’s really nothing you can do,” he noted.

To mitigate the impact of weather on festive displays, Brockwood recommends opting for commercial-grade lights along with plug end protectors, ensuring that decorations remain vibrant and unaffected by the elements.

The neighborhood of Peacock Lane is set to unveil its enchanting light display on December 15, presenting a much-anticipated holiday treat for the community. With a little preparation and weather awareness, this year’s holiday spirit can shine through brightly despite the challenges nature may present.
