The Ministry of Fisheries’ Team Aqua North has successfully concluded a three-day training program aimed at tilapia farmers in Namocemoce Village, Seaqaqa, with the objective of enhancing aquaculture practices and increasing farm productivity in the northern region. Held in Dreketi, the training focused on practical, hands-on instruction to equip participants with essential skills.

Throughout the program, the farmers took part in various field activities designed to enhance their proficiency and understanding of tilapia farming. Key topics covered included fish sampling techniques for monitoring the health and growth of tilapia, strategies for optimizing feed calculation to improve feeding efficiency, soil testing to identify suitable pond conditions, and effective water retention methods to create ideal aquaculture environments.

Participants hailed from the provinces of Cakaudrove, Bua, and Macuata, showcasing a concerted effort to advance inland fisheries and aquaculture development. Those selected for the training are expected to return to their communities to apply the knowledge gained, thereby reinforcing local fish farming practices.

The Ministry of Fisheries emphasized that this initiative is part of its broader commitment to build the capacity of farmers, boost tilapia production, and promote sustainable aquaculture across the Northern Division. This proactive strategy not only aids the farmers but also enhances community development and contributes to food security in the region. With such initiatives, the Ministry is paving the way for a more prosperous and sustainable future for local fisheries.
