Guests from a cruise ship received a warm welcome at Vunidawamoli Village in Wailevu, Cakaudrove, marking a vital milestone for the local community. The twenty visitors were the first to take part in the newly launched Nukuramase Eco Tours, which aims to highlight the village’s rich culture and stunning natural scenery.
As part of their experience, guests explored the village, took part in traditional bilibili rides, and had the chance to purchase authentic local souvenirs from the village hall. For many years, the Vunidawamoli community longed to share its traditions with outsiders, but encountered difficulties in accessing essential resources and support. Thanks to recent collaborative efforts, this vision has now become a reality.
The initiative was made possible through the Micro and Small Enterprise (MSE) support provided by the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, along with ongoing assistance from the Na Vualiku Tourism Development Programme Office. The ministry’s grant aimed for 2025 has significantly increased the community’s capacity to improve its tourism offerings, instill confidence among its members, and ensure a warm welcome for visitors that aligns with international tourism standards.
Nukuramase Eco Tours is set to host more cruise ship guests in the upcoming months, contributing to the region’s burgeoning tourism industry. The recent docking of the cruise ship MS Zaandam at Vanua Levu has demonstrated a rising interest in exploring the area’s unique attractions.
This initiative not only enhances tourism but also encourages cultural exchange, resulting in a meaningful experience for visitors and a renewed sense of pride for the local inhabitants. The success of Nukuramase Eco Tours symbolizes a hopeful future for Wailevu Village as it embraces opportunities for sustainable tourism development.
