Fiji National Futsal head coach Jose Gerardo has praised the commitment exhibited by Northern Division coaches during a fruitful three-day Futsal Coaching Course held at the Fiji FA Academy in Labasa. The event saw participation from 15 coaches representing the areas of Dreketi, Bua, Udu, Savusavu, and Labasa.
Gerardo highlighted the shifting trends in futsal, noting the inclusion of a female teacher from Udu Point, which signifies the sport’s increasing reach within educational institutions. “I’m very happy with the response from the North; the coaches were eager to learn and showed great interest in developing futsal in their respective districts,” Gerardo said.
This coaching course not only enhanced the coaches’ expertise but also played a critical role in promoting grassroots futsal initiatives throughout the Northern region. Following this accomplishment, Gerardo announced plans for a similar coaching course to take place in the Western Zone later this week, as part of the Fiji FA’s steadfast dedication to development across the country.
Gerardo underscored the necessity of providing ongoing training and resources for coaches in all regions, enabling those involved in futsal to acquire the essential skills they need to succeed. This consistent investment in the sport signals a bright future for futsal in Fiji, as grassroots efforts continue to expand and thrive throughout the nation.
