The retractable roof of Loan Depot Park will remain closed during the construction of the ice rink, allowing for a controlled environment as temperatures typically hover around a warm 76 degrees in January. In 2018, the Lightning took initial steps to make an outdoor game a reality by erecting a billboard that encouraged the NHL to embrace fresh ideas and scenic locations.
