In light of the situation, New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has issued directives urging New Zealand citizens in the affected region to shelter in place and adhere to local authorities’ guidance. Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters expressed their shared concern, emphasizing, “We join the international community in hoping this crisis ends as quickly as possible.”
The New Zealand government strongly condemned Iran’s indiscriminate retaliatory missile attacks on several neighboring countries, including Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan. They highlighted the importance of preventing further regional escalation and underscoring the need to protect civilian lives.
Additionally, New Zealand’s statement criticized Iran’s nuclear activities, its destabilizing actions in the region, and its oppressive governance of its own citizens.
