The Government has invested over $36,000 to enhance rural access with the completion of the Sawani footcrossing project in Naitasiri. The project was officially handed over to Sawani Village by the outgoing Minister for Rural and Maritime Development, Sakiasi Ditoka. He emphasized that the new footcrossing is crucial for improving transportation and community preparedness, especially during natural disasters.
Mr. Ditoka highlighted the strong cooperation among the church, the vanua, and the government, which was evident during the project’s launch. The footcrossing is expected to facilitate movement for villagers, particularly benefiting women, children, the elderly, and people with disabilities. In total, the initiative will serve 349 villagers across 60 households.
The minister noted that the ministry is dedicated to engaging with rural communities to identify essential development priorities. He expressed the Government’s commitment to responding to community needs and enhancing the effectiveness of government programs through robust village leadership. Mr. Ditoka reaffirmed that the Government will continue to pursue similar initiatives nationwide.
This investment not only enhances infrastructure but also strengthens community ties and resilience, reflecting a proactive approach to rural development.
