The Office of the President has welcomed a new executive sedan, a gift from the People’s Republic of China, during a recent ceremonial handover. President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu expressed gratitude for this donation, emphasizing Fiji’s unwavering commitment to the One China Policy.
During the ceremony, the President reflected on the longstanding partnership between Fiji and China, acknowledging China as a vital development partner. He pointed out the extensive cooperation spanning various sectors, including health, agriculture, education, and infrastructure. The President recognized China’s contributions in critical areas such as malaria control and the support received during the COVID-19 pandemic, including the recent renovations of a wing at State House completed in 2025.
Wang Yuan, the Chargé d’Affaires ad interim to Fiji, highlighted that the donation of the Hongqi H9 executive sedan symbolizes the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations. He reminded attendees that Fiji was the first Pacific Island nation to establish diplomatic relations with China and celebrated 50 years of these ties last year.
Wang expressed optimism regarding the future of Fiji-China relations, stating that the new vehicle would aid the daily functions of the Office of the President and reinforce the bilateral partnership. He affirmed China’s dedication to continued cooperation and support for Fiji’s development initiatives, fostering a hopeful outlook for the ongoing collaboration between the two nations.
