Men’s grassroots teams participating in this year’s Fiji Bitter Marist 7s will have the chance to earn substantial rewards, with the organizers announcing a new bonus initiative aimed at encouraging competition. Any team that clinches the tournament title for the first time will receive a bonus of $5,000, in addition to the standard prize pool of $12,000.
This announcement was made by Lawrence Tikaram, president of the Marist Club, during the official launch of the tournament in Suva. Tikaram highlighted that this initiative specifically targets teams achieving their inaugural victory at the Marist 7s, adding an exciting layer of motivation for new entrants.
Moreover, various additional incentives have been implemented across all tournament categories. Teams will earn $50 for each pool match they win, a strategy Tikaram believes will foster a more competitive environment and push teams to elevate their performance.
To celebrate the tournament’s 50th anniversary, organizers also plan to engage in a notable environmental initiative by planting 50 trees. Each team captain will participate in this effort by planting one tree, underscoring both the significance of the anniversary and the event’s commitment to sustainability.
The Fiji Bitter Marist 7s is set to occur from March 26th to 28th, promising an exhilarating and competitive atmosphere as teams strive not only for victory but also for the newly established bonuses. This initiative reflects a dedication to enhancing grassroots rugby in Fiji while also promoting environmental responsibility.
