Netflix is set to explore the enduring impact of one of reality television’s most iconic series in its new documentary, “Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model.” More than two decades since the show first captivated audiences, creator Tyra Banks invites viewers to gain insight into the tumultuous experiences of former contestants and the behind-the-scenes dynamics that shaped the series.

In a recently released trailer, Banks, who has remained somewhat reticent about the show’s legacy, begins to open up about the intense environment and pressures faced by models. The documentary sheds light on various alarming issues, from invasive dental procedures to incidents of sexual harassment during photoshoots that contestants endured. Former creative director Jay Manuel commented on the extreme lengths to which Banks went for the success of the show, stating, “Tyra would do anything for the success of her show.” The trailer features clips of contestants facing intense situations, including fainting and being injured by stage equipment, stirring up discussions around the show’s responsibility for its contestants’ well-being.

With the release of this three-part series on February 16, directed by Mor Loushy and Daniel Sivan, audiences are poised for a deeper understanding of the complexities behind the glamour of “America’s Next Top Model.” This documentary promises to provide a reflective look at reality television’s impact on its participants, aiming to spark conversations about the industry’s evolution and the ongoing challenges faced by models today.
