Leander Independent School District (LISD) has announced that all schools and facilities will remain closed on Monday, January 26, due to ongoing freezing temperatures and the associated hazardous travel conditions. This closure includes the cancellation of all classes and after-school activities.

This decision was made following consultations with emergency response agencies and local officials, who advised that even though precipitation has ceased, the temperature will not exceed freezing. These conditions create significant risks on the roads across the vast region served by the district.

Currently, there are no changes anticipated for the school schedule on Tuesday, January 27. The district plans to provide families with an update by 6 p.m. on Monday, as staff continue to assess weather forecasts and the condition of school facilities.

The safety of students and staff remains the district’s top priority. Notably, meal services will not be available on Monday, and all after-school events, including practices and games, are canceled.

The academic calendar for the 2025-26 school year has been planned to accommodate potential disruptions, meaning this canceled day will not require a makeup session. For schools following the A/B Block Schedule, Tuesday will be a designated B day, with no calendar changes.

Residents are urged to protect the “four Ps” during this cold weather: people, pets, pipes, and plants. It is advised to dress in layers if venturing outside, safeguard exposed skin, and ensure that homes and vehicles are prepared for winter conditions.

The district will keep a close watch on weather developments and share updates from the National Weather Service. For the latest information, families can check the district’s website or follow their social media channels.
